HEALTHY, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS

OUR PEBBLES CURRICULUM AIMS TO PROMOTE THE POSITIVE WELLBEING AND RESILIENCE OF ALL PUPILS AND SUPPORTS DEVELOPMENT OF:

  • Children who are spontaneous communicators and who are able to make a choice and interact with others.
  • Children who are able to access and engage with personalised learning opportunities.
  • Children who have their sensory needs met
  • Children who are ready for the next stage of their education and learning.
  • Children who are developing self-regulation.

We aim to develop the pre-requisite skills that allow our children to further consolidate their confidence to engage as they transition through to our Discovery and Innovate Phases.

TEACHING & LEARNING

THE PRIMARY CURRICULUM IN PEBBLES IS A PROCESS BASED, SENSORY AND DEVELOPMENTAL CURRICULUM. IT FOCUSES UPON DEVELOPING CHILDREN’S COMMUNICATION, ENGAGEMENT AND SKILLS THROUGH A WIDE RANGE OF KINAESTHETIC AND MULTI-SENSORY EXPERIENCES.

We use an adapted, adult-led play-based approach to teaching. Classrooms provide continuous provision and sensory exploration alongside specialist approaches and strategies based upon the Total Communication Approach. Although sessions are planned and delivered in a variety of ways (whole class, group and individually) all teaching is individualised.

The adult’s role is to facilitate engagement and learning across all areas of the curriculum.

BUILDING A FUTURE

IN PEBBLES, WE WORK CLOSELY WITH HEALTH COLLEAGUES SUCH AS:

  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Educational Psychologists
  • Complex Needs Behaviour Service
  • Learning Disability Nurses

to develop bespoke programmes for our children.

Together, we support the holistic development of the child ensuring provision is specific, relevant and individual.

We liaise closely with families to support at home with toileting programmes, communication programmes, self-regulation and sensory processing plans.
We communicate with parents via Seesaw and telephone calls to ensure families are supported and milestones and achievements are celebrated by all.
