ENTERPRISING, CREATIVE CONTRIBUTORS

IN STEPPING STONES WE ENCOURAGE OUR PUPILS TO PARTICIPATE IN A NUMBER OF SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES THAT SUIT THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS AND INTERESTS.

Our staff are diverse in interests and skills offering the pupils many activities that will encourage physical and mental development.

Pupils are encouraged to talk to key staff and outside agencies and given opportunities to develop confidence when speaking in front of an audience.

Our range of courses are designed to develop their confidence as well as academic and mental development and will offer pupils a wide array of skills, both vocational and academic.

Sixth form facilities include: our “Retreat” a sixth form café and social rest room, “Cuts and Curls” a hair and beauty salon, an indoor gym, and our onsite Bushcraft area.

TEACHING & LEARNING

THE CURRICULUM COVERS FUNCTIONAL SKILLS, APPLICATION OF NUMBER, COMMUNICATION AND ICT SKILLS, INDEPENDENT LEARNING AND LIFE SKILLS, HEALTH AND WELLBEING AND THE WORLD OF WORK.

Pupils are offered a range of vocational options in school and in local colleges including Sports Leaders courses, BushCraft, Lantra, Outdoor Pursuits, Expressive Arts, Mechanics, Construction, Life Skills, Design and Technology, Catering, ICT, Gaming and British Sign Language.

Pupils can gain accreditations from awarding bodies including, Agored, WJEC, VTCT, Duke of Edinburgh Award, 1st4Sport and SPLUK Sports Leaders.

We have close partnerships with many external agencies to enhance the experience for our pupils including the FAW Trust, Empower be the Change, Sport Wales, Active Wrexham and Achieve More Learning.

BUILDING A FUTURE

WE RECOGNISE THAT THE TRANSITION FROM COMPULSORY EDUCATION TO NON-COMPULSORY EDUCATION IS A LAND MARK TIME FOR ALL OUR PUPILS.

To support in the transition to life after St Christopher’s school, we have developed a discreet Post16 provision with the aim of supporting independence and readiness for the next phase in their education. The main aims of this curriculum are to:

  • Provide and follow each and every pupil’s individual learning pathway, in order to get them where they want to be after they leave St. Christopher’s School; whether that be in further education (college), training or employment;
  • Develop and equip each pupil with individualised life skills in order for them to live as independently as they possibly can.

We work closely with Careers Wales to provide advice and guidance to our pupils and develop an awareness of the world of work and college.
